HAVANA, Cuba, October 28 (ACN) Army General Raúl Castro Ruz participated this evening in a videoconference led by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez with the National Defense Council and the provinces bound to be hit by Hurricane Melissa.
Brigadier General José Amado Ricardo Guerra, Secretary of the Council of Ministers, stressed that Raúl is aware of and has been following the course of events very closely, praised the measures taken and the country’s level of preparedness, and insisted on the need to maintain maximum discipline during the storm and in the aftermath.
General Ricardo also conveyed Raúl's greetings and his conviction that the people will emerge victorious from this new challenge.
Díaz-Canel confirmed at the meeting that the government reviewed the measures taken in the eastern provinces, where more than 735,000 people have been evacuated.
"It will be a very difficult night for all of Cuba, but we will recover from this with the confidence in victory that Fidel and Raúl instilled in us," he said.
