Cuba commemorates 66th anniversary of Camilo’s decease

HAVANA, Cuba, October 28 (ACN) With the enduring fortitude of memory rather than with the sorrow of farewells, the Cuban people gathered at Havana’s seawall to pay tribute to Commander Camilo Cienfuegos 66 years after his death in a ceremony where it was proclaimed that his example keeps pointing the victorious course of the Revolution.

Led by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, the ceremony served to send a message of unity and resilience to the nation and the world that Camilo, known as “Señor de la Vanguardia” (Lord of the Vanguard) was remembered not as a mere page of history, but as a beacon and a symbol of loyalty, fighting spirit, and boundless love for his people.

"We will rise strong in the face of Hurricane Melissa's impact, as we have done so many times before," it was affirmed, with emphasis on the fact that Cuba is witnessing both a natural disaster and a wave of solidarity at the United Nations on the eve of the vote on the draft resolution "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba."

The keynote address was delivered by Marian Libertad García Rodríguez, a twelfth-grade student at Havana’s Camilo Cienfuegos Military School.

“For young Cubans, Camilo is an irreplaceable guide to forge our values and become better students and revolutionaries”, she remarked. "Let imperialism not think that its swan songs will make us forget our heroes and martyrs."

Quoting Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, she recalled that Camilo was the most audacious and courageous commander of the Rebel Army and a hero everywhere he went.

The commemoration concluded with a call to throw flowers into the sea to validate the eternal memory of Camilo, whose giant smile became the people.
