
HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 28 (ACN) Army Corps General Roberto Legra Sotolongo, First Deputy Minister and Chief of the General Staff of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), held a meeting today in the eastern province of Granma with the president of the Provincial Defense Council and the commander of the Military Region to specify protective actions in the face of Hurricane Melissa, according to the Eastern Army's Facebook profile.
During the meeting, the measures already taken were evaluated, and immediate actions were outlined to strengthen the protection of the population and ensure a timely response to the meteorological event.
The FAR reported that rescue and salvage brigades are preparing in vulnerable areas to support the population and secure essential resources. The preparation of these forces includes the mobilization of Eastern Army amphibious transporters to areas of probable impact.
According to official information, the FAR troops are ready to act with discipline and unity, in coordination with territorial authorities, with the goal of preserving lives and minimizing material damage.
The institutional message emphasized that young soldiers play a decisive role in protection efforts, with rescue and salvage brigades prepared to intervene in communities exposed to floods, landslides, or mudslides.
The armed forces' preparations are in addition to the actions of the Civil Defense and the Provincial Defense Councils, which have advised the population to adhere to the measures of the cyclone alert phase with discipline and to stay informed through official channels.
