
HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 24 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, celebrated today the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations .
On the occasion, the president expressed his gratitude for the UN's support for sustainable development and the fight against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
On the occasion, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, called for the protection and strengthening of the UN.The UN was founded 80 years ago; today, the US government threatens its founding principles and purposes, the Foreign Minister declared on X.
Cuban head of diplomacy urged people to avoid subordinating the UN to the priorities and capricious rules imposed by those who provide the most funding. United Nations Day is celebrated every October 24th, commemorating the anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter in 1945.
In his remarks marking the 80th anniversary of the UN, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for unity. Now, more than ever, the world must recommit to solving problems that no single nation can solve alone, he said.
