HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 24 (ACN) The National Civil Defense General Staff established the Information Phase today in a press release for the eastern provinces of Guantanamo, Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Holguin, Las Tunas, and Camagüey, due to the evolution of Tropical Storm Melissa in the waters of the Caribbean Sea.
According to the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology, the system remained almost stationary in recent hours, interacting with a trough that increased humidity and instability over the national territory.
Specialists predict that over the weekend Melissa will move slowly toward Jamaica and the seas south of Cuba, with gradual strengthening followed by rapid intensification, representing a potential danger for the eastern provinces.
The Civil Defense advised the population to stay informed through national media and official social media profiles, as well as to strictly follow the instructions of local authorities.
The National Civil Defense Staff, together with the Institute of Meteorology and the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, is closely monitoring the evolution of the cyclonic organism and its potential
