MATANZAS, Cuba, Oct 24 (ACN) Scheduled to begin sometime next week, the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant (CTE), the largest and most efficient unitary block in Cuba, is preparing for light maintenance, lasting approximately four days, to correct technical defects and ensure cleanliness in key areas.
Ruben Campos Olmo, the industry's general director, told the Cuban News Agency that among the most significant activities is the resolution of an irregularity in the high-temperature reheater (RAT by its Spanish acronym), the root cause of overconsumption of water at the unit, which has been in operation for more than 35 years.
At the same time, the condenser will be cleaned and the regenerative air heaters (CAR by its Spanish acronym) will be washed, among more than 450 tasks that should ensure the Antonio Guiteras CTE increases its power and greater online stability, the executive reported.
Campos Olmo emphasized that the block currently generates around 215 megawatts for the national electricity system (SEN), although he warned of a downward trend in the coming days until it is subsequently decommissioned.
This thermoelectric plant, the spearhead of thermal generation in Cuba, stands out among all for being located in the western part of the island, where the largest loads are concentrated, and for consuming domestic crude oil via pipeline without the need for transportation costs, among other advantages.
