Cuban province advances in the construction of its fourth solar park

CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Oct 21 (ACN) Joint forces from the Ministry of Construction, and specifically from the Architectural Construction Company No. 37 as the main contractor, are undertaking the construction of a new Photovoltaic Solar Park (PSFV by its Spanish acronym) in the central province of Cienfuegos.

Salvador Vera Hernandez, Project Director of the Cienfuegos Provincial Electric Company (EEPC), told the Cuban News Agency that they are now working on the 32 hectares designated for the investment, including placing piles to begin installation.

He added that the project, whose investor is the Electric Company, will have a capacity of 21.8 megawatts, more than 1,600 photovoltaic structures, and will include approximately 43,000 panels.

It will also include all the necessary accessories, including electrical and communications networks, ground protection and lightning rod systems, fire detection systems, control panels in its primary and secondary containers, the required utilities, as well as exterior lighting and perimeter fencing.

He announced that the installation's commissioning is planned for early next year, depending on the progress of the work on-site.

Located in the small settlement of Pepe Rivas, about four kilometers outside Cienfuegos, the park will connect to the lines that run from the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes thermoelectric plant, explained Attius Rodriguez Peña, director of the Renewable Energy Sources Base Business Unit at EEPC.

He added that this is an ideal area for photovoltaic generation, hence the location of the area for those purposes.

The southern province plans to build five parks through 2026 as part of this national renewable energy generation program.

Rodriguez Peña indicated that these facilities have been in operation for several years, since the first one in the province began operating in 2014, so they could receive some improvements with the remaining panels from the projects yet to be completed.
