Cuba solidarity group in Chile salutes Fidel’s centennial

HAVANA, Cuba, October 19 (ACN) A meeting in Chile of the December 2 Collective, held on the occasion of the centennial of Fidel’s birth, was dedicated to the current relevance of his thoughts.

Among the participants was the journalist Florencia Lagos, holder of a master's degree in International Relations, who remarked that Fidel was a man of great sensitivity and a humanist capable of transforming the life of his country and referred to his internationalist principles, including the struggle to end the apartheid regime in South Africa and his support to the liberation of the Vietnamese and other peoples, as one of his great legacies.

She also praised his anti-imperialist thinking, especially valid nowadays as the United States deploys its army in the Caribbean, intends to use the CIA inside Venezuela, and attacks vessels from that country.

“Fidel Castro was one of the first within the Non-Aligned Movement to denounce Israel's genocide against the Palestinian people”, she pointed out.

The December 2 Collective was established nine years ago to support Cuba and then engaged in actions of solidarity with the Chilean people through activities at community level and medical care services conducted by doctors graduated in Cuba.

One of its members, Pedro Pinto, mentioned the numerous actions organized to support Cuba, including the shipment of syringes to administer COVID-19 vaccines, the campaign Un granito de amor por Cuba (A little bit of love for Cuba) and, more recently, the meeting Un abrazo por Cuba (A hug for Cuba), intended to raise funds to send a medical team and supplies to a hospital in Havana.
