Final session of Cuba solidarity meeting pays tribute to Fidel

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 12 (ACN) The Sunday and final session of the IX Continental Latin American and Caribbean Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, attended by 500 delegates from more than 30 nations, began with a tribute to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.

The event included the screening of the documentary El sueño de la unión (The dream of union), about the thinking of the historic leader of the Revolution as a follower of the ideas of Bolivar and Martí, as well as the Brazilian theologian Frei Betto’s lecture "Fidel and Latin American and Caribbean Unity."

The day’s program also featured a Final Declaration and the presentation of the agreements reached by the Working Groups regarding ways and actions to expand and strengthen the movement in defense of the Revolution, the battle against the blockade, and the exclusion of Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, as well as the engagement of more young people in the organizations.

Likewise, the delegates paid special attention to the coordination and integration of solidarity work and the promotion of local economic projects, while reaffirming their support for Palestine, Venezuela, and all the just causes of the peoples.

The forum received greetings from personalities such as Blanca Eekhout, president of the Simón Bolívar Institute for Peace and Solidarity with the Peoples, who expressed "deep admiration and respect for the Cuban people and their Revolution, an example of dignity and firmness in the face of the most ferocious blockade."
