Diaz-Canel recognized work of electrical workers



HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 12 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, recognized the workers and staff of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) and the Electricity Company for their record-breaking recovery of the National Electric System (SEN).

The president highlighted on X their heroic daily confrontation with the challenges of aging plants battered by the energy and financial persecution of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States government.

Diaz-Canel shared a message issued on Thursday afternoon on the same social media by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), in which the agency announced the restoration of the SEN, which was completely disconnected at 9:14 a.m. on Wednesday, following an unexpected shutdown at the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant in Matanzas.

Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero also praised the performance of the Ministry of Energy and Mining (MINEM) and Electricity Company workers on X, adding that they achieved the feat of restoring the SEN in about 28 hours.

The Prime Minister clarified that the situation remains complex, but the program to recover the sector continues.

At 1:24 p.m. on Thursday, the Ministry of Energy reported on X that all of the country's provinces were now connected to the National Electric System and therefore the system was restored.

At 6:00 a.m., on the same day, 1,000 megawatts were being generated in Cuba; The last provinces to join the SEN were Pinar del Rio, Artemisa, Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo.
