Cuban deputy PM assesses water system in westernmost province

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 5 (ACN) Ines Maria Chapman Waugh, Cuba's deputy prime minister, toured hydraulic facilities in Pinar del Roo to evaluate the functioning of the water supply systems and their impact on agricultural production and services to the population.

According to a thread published by Radio Guama on X, the visit began at the Herradura Dam, located in the municipality of Consolacion del Sur, an infrastructure that provides water to agriculture and guarantees the supply for the Vietnam-Cuba joint rice production program, developed by the Los Palacios grain agro-industrial company.

The source emphasizes that during the conversation with executives from the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH) in the territory, Chapman Waugh emphasized the strategic importance of these structures, especially in contexts of drought.

In this regard, the post clarifies, 34 work projects have already been identified to maintain the reservoirs' operation and improve the system's efficiency.

The publication specifies that the Cuban leader's work agenda included an analysis of the water supply situation for the population, in a province that currently reports more than 82,000 customers affected by unstable service.

In this regard, the text specifies that Chapman Waugh emphasized the need for coordination with the electric company to avoid voltage fluctuations that compromise the operation of the pumping equipment.

The source explains that during her tour of one of the wells that supply the main municipality, the deputy prime minister inquired about the long distribution cycles, which in some areas exceed six months.

There, she witnessed the complex work being done to restore the vitality of the motor, damaged by repeated power failures, a situation that—according to the president of the INRH—requires an urgent solution.

The visit is part of the government's actions to strengthen the country's hydraulic infrastructure, guarantee the rational use of water, and improve the population's quality of life.
