HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 2 (ACN) Specialized brigades from the Cuban Railway Company, along with technicians from the Cuban Sugar Railways and Western Railways, are working today to repair the railway track affected by the derailment of four cars of Train Extra 946, which occurred on Monday on the Hershey Line section near the Jibacoa station.
Eduardo Rodriguez Davila, head of the Cuban Ministry of Transportation, posted on his Facebook profile that technical resources and qualified personnel were mobilized hours after the incident to contain the honey spill, evacuate the remaining cargo, and repair the damage to the infrastructure, estimated at approximately 400 meters of track and 300 sleepers.
He clarified that the locomotive, identified as number 38093, was not damaged, and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Rodriguez Davila confirmed that local authorities and the National Revolutionary Police are supporting security and coordination efforts at the site, while the recipient customer was immediately informed to arrange for the product's recovery.
An investigative committee, composed of specialists from the Railway Transport Administration, is analyzing the technical causes of the accident, as part of the established protocol for such events.
The convoy was transporting a load of bulk honey distributed in twelve wagons—ten of which were tankers—from the Batalla de las Guasimas and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes sugar mills in the province of Camagüey to the province of Mayabeque.
Three of the tanker cars overturned, causing a spill of the product, and a fourth was derailed without overturning.
