
HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 29 (ACN) Cuban prseident Miguel Diaz-Canel received in Havana Zhang Anming, assistant general director of Guangxi State Controlled Capital Operations Group Limited, a Chines estate group, to discuss joint projects to revive the Cuban sugar industry
Diaz-Canel spoke higly of the significance of this visit to Cuba that is part of the agreements with President Xi Jinping to boost mutually benefitial projects in trade and industry.
Díaz-Canel highlighted that the Guangxi autonomous region, where the business group is based, has the most experience in sugarcane cultivation and processing in China, where innovative techniques are applied and equipment, implements, and inputs are developed.
After a brief recount of the historical development of the sugar agroindustry in the largest of the Antilles, the leader stated that amid the current economic situation, it has been very difficult for the country to reverse the process of technological deterioration in the sector.
As part of their visit to the Island, which began last Tuesday and will extend until next Saturday, the Chinese delegation will tour several sugar mills in the central part of the country to evaluate the existing potential there.
Guangxi, officially the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China, located in the south of that vast country and bordering Vietnam. Its capital is Nanning, and it has over 50 million inhabitants. In addition to its powerful agricultural sector, its economy is based on manufacturing, mining, tourism, international trade, and the exploitation of marine resources.
