Cuban FM ratifies condemnation of terrorism

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 21 (ACN) Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister reaffirmed on X, his condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations on the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism.

Cuban diplomat recalled that the Caribbean nation was the victim of terrorist actions organized, financed, and executed from the United States, which resulted in the deaths of 3,478 people and disabilities for 2,099 citizens.

Rodriguez Parrilla noted that since 1959, thousands of covert acts have been carried out, including sabotage and different types of operations, such as economic, military, biological, psychological, diplomatic, media, and espionage attacks, as well as assassination attempts against leaders of the Revolution.

The Foreign Minister stated that these actions were combined with the tightening of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades, even reinforced during the COVID-19 pandemic, which he described as a genocidal practice.

Among the examples, he cited the bombing of the Cubana de Aviacion plane in mid-flight on October 6, 1976, which killed 73 people, including 24 members of the youth fencing team, following a bomb attack organized by terrorists Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch, linked to the United States Central Intelligence Agency.

The tragedy of the Barbados Crime claimed the lives of 57 Cubans, 11 Guyanese, and five Koreans—73 people in total—which became one of the most painful episodes of terrorism against the people of the Caribbean nation.

The International Day of Commemoration and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism was proclaimed in 2017 by the United Nations General Assembly to listen to the survivors of such acts and share their experiences in order to raise awareness and promote positive change.
