Havana, Aug 7 (ACN) Santiago de Cuba’s Antonio Maceo International Airport will undergo thorough remodeling of is areas to double its current operation capacities.
The announcement was made by Cuban Transportation Minister Eduardo Rodriguez on Facebook; he explained that remodeling works will take place in 2026 an 2027 without interrupting airport operations.
The remodeling of the two-story building will allow having international and national arrival areas downstairs, with independent flows, which will step up reception and handing of luggage, the minister said and added that the upper floor will only be dedicated to departures. Lifts and mechanical stairs allow access to the upper areas for all passengers.
Along with the new design of the two areas, the project also includes the improvement of equipment, such as new luggage carousels, modern passport control booths and air-cooling systems.
The actions aim at improving comfort conditions in all areas and service quality for passengers, airline personnel and public in general, said Minister Eduardo Rodriguez who stressed the important role of the Santiago air terminal for the economic, tourist and social development of the region because the airport offers a link between the eastern Cuban city wit the rest of the world.lc
