HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 4 (ACN) The "Fidel Castro Centenary" Football Cup was opened today with the presence of M. A. Baby, Secretary General of the Communist Party of India, and Juan Carlos Marsan, Cuban Ambassador to India.
The sporting event, organized by the National Committee of Solidarity with Cuba in India, pays tribute to the legacy of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016), highlighting his humanist thinking and his staunch defense of sport as a right of the people, according to the official website of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
The initiative seeks to strengthen friendship and solidarity bonds between both nations through a celebration that unites shared values in a ten-day competition featuring 32 teams representing different municipalities in New Delhi, in an atmosphere marked by the spirit of unity and cooperation among people.
According to the publication, the "Fidel Castro Centenary" Cup is part of the commemorative activities for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution and reaffirms the commitment of solidarity movements to promoting his legacy internationally.
