Construction company restores roads of national interest

HOLGUIN, Cuba, August 4 (ACN) The Engineering Construction Company 17 (INGECO) is restoring the national highway network in the eastern province of Holguin, with the goal of facilitating passenger and freight transportation via direct routes.

As part of the investments developed by the Provincial Road Center, the entity is carrying out restoration work on roads that connect with territories in eastern Cuba, including some border sections that were underutilized due to significant deterioration and high risk of the routes, Yisel Tamayo Yopiz, INGECO's deputy technical director, explained to the Cuban News Agency.

To date, approximately 156 kilometers of roads have been maintained using more than two thousand tons of hot-mix asphalt and seven thousand tons of cold-mix asphalt, both locally produced.

The Base Business Units of Earthworks and Asphalt are involved in these projects, ensuring the optimal condition of the embankments for subsequent pothole repair and paving, she noted.

To guarantee the quality of the services, the Territorial Standardization Office in the area of Metrology and the National Company of Applied Research are responsible for certifying the proper compaction of the roads and the condition of the pavement, she added.

Founded 48 years ago, the Engineering Works Construction Company 17, also known as Ecoi-17, includes among its services the manufacture of hot and cold asphalt concrete, an effective and economical solution for improving Holguín's road infrastructure, which extends over 6,000 kilometers.
