Cuban President commemorates the martyrs of the Revolution

HAVANA, Cuba, July 30 (ACN) In a post on X on the occasion of the Day of the Martyrs of the Revolution, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel honored all those who fell during the struggle to overthrow the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1959).

In his message, Díaz-Canel evoked the assassination of the revolutionaries Frank País and Raúl Pujol on July 30, 1957, a crime leading up to the designation of the Day of commemoration.

“We remember those who gave their noble lives inspired by the dream of an emancipated Cuba”, he wrote, stressing that those born in our Homeland have in young people like Frank and Raúl role models of virtue and a source of pride in knowing that they come from Cubans like them.

Frank País García, chief of action and sabotage for the 26th of July Movement, and the revolutionary Raúl Pujol Arencibia, were machine-gunned by the repressive forces of the Batista dictatorship in the city of Santiago de Cuba.

Upon learning of the crime, Fidel Castro declared: "How barbaric! They cowardly hunted him down in the streets, taking advantage of their ability to hunt down an underground fighter. What monsters! They have no idea of the intelligence, the character, the integrity they have murdered!"
