MATANZAS, Cuba, July 29 (ACN) After more than three decades of unconditional support for the Cuban Revolution, the Cuba Solidarity Brigade, made up of militants from Nou Barris in Barcelona and members of the Spanish Communist Party, is visiting the province of Matanzas as part of a tour across the island.
Upon welcoming the group, Norlenis Serpa Santos, provincial coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), remarked that for 31 years the Brigade has been on Cuba’s side and supported the Cuban people’s struggles and truths at international level.
“These friends are deeply committed to the revolutionary cause and every year organize fundraisers and bring medical supplies to our hospitals”, she pointed out. “Their presence in our neighborhoods is a symbol of respect and fraternity, as they visit communities and social projects where they talk with people and learn about our reality, which they firmly and constantly defend anywhere in the world”.
The Brigade’s agenda in the province of Matanzas includes tours of community projects and neighborhoods in transformation and meetings with grassroots leaders and residents with a view to sharing their experiences with others when they go back to their country.
Serpa Santos, who recalled the words of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro when he referred to the CDRs as a pillar of the Revolution, said that the Brigade proves the value of solidarity as the Cuban people cope with a blockade imposed by the United States with total impunity.
