President of Cuban Parliament received Mozambican party leader

HAVANA, Cuba, July 20 (ACN) “We highly value your visit to our country as an excellent opportunity to keep strengthening the historic and close relations between both parties, parliaments, governments, and peoples”, Political Bureau member Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) and of the Council of State, said upon receiving Chakil Aboobacar, secretary-general of the Mozambican Liberation Front (FRELIMO).

Mr. Lazo, who remarked that the distinguished visitor's stay in Havana follows the recent celebration of the 10th Plenary Session of the Party's Central Committee and the 5th Ordinary Session of the Cuban Parliament, talked with his guest about current issues, such as the ANPP’s work to improve institutional and popular control mechanisms, the legislative process developed in the island, and the structure of the current Legislature.

The Cuban leader also thanked Mozambique for its firm opposition to the U.S. blockade and the re-designation of Cuba as an alleged state sponsor of terrorism.

On his end, Mr. Aboobacar stressed that Cuba and Mozambique will remain united and keep strengthening their bilateral ties of fraternity and cooperation for the benefit of their peoples, whose longtime friendship was forged by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and the Mozambican leader Samora Machel.
