
HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 7 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, expressed today Cuba's commitment to continue promoting South-South cooperation.
During an exchange with Dilma Rousseff, president of the New Development Bank (NDB) of the BRICS bloc, the president asserted that the Caribbean nation can be an important hub for the economic development of the Greater Caribbean.
I had the exchange on Cuba's commitment to continue promoting South-South and Triangular Cooperation. Our country can be an important platform for the economic development of the Greater Caribbean, Diaz-Canel said on X.
The meeting took place within the framework of the 17th BRICS Summit, which has been taking place in Rio de Janeiro since this Sunday, July 6, under the theme "Strengthening cooperation in the Global South for more inclusive and sustainable governance."
The Forum has discussed topics such as strengthening cooperation between countries in the Global South and promoting reforms in international governance mechanisms.
Former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff (2011-2016) was re-elected as president of the NDB in March 2025, a position she has held since April 2023.
NDB is an entity created by the BRICS group with the aim of mobilizing funds for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in developing markets and emerging nations.
