National Festival of Italian Cuba Friendship Association comes to an end

HAVANA, Cuba, June 29 (ACN) The 4th Festival of the National Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC) was held for three days in Cava dei Tirreni, in the Italian province of Salerno, with the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Gerardo Hernández, as a special guest.

Sunday's program, dedicated to the Cuban medical brigade deployed in Calabria, featured the participation of some of the doctors from the island who talked about their experiences.

Mr. Hernández, who is also the national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution and a member of the Cuban Parliament and of the Council of State, will also attend the 3rd International Meeting "Europe for Cuba", organized in Venice in early July.

The ANAIC festival kicked off on June 27 at the Convent of Saint Francis and Saint Anthony in Salerno with the lecture “Santería, between Catholicism and resistance”, given by the Italy-based Cuban nationals Ulises Mora and Irma Castillo, promoters of the cultural project Timbalaye.

The previous day included an Anti-Fascist Roundtable with the participation of the writer Sonia Zanotti, the jurist Mirelle Fanon, the Cuban sociologist Indira Pineda, the Venezuelan consul Esquia Rubín, and the filmmaker Loredana Macchietti, president of the Gianni Miná Foundation, followed by the panel "Cuba: The Island in Defense of Humanity in the Trump Era", coordinated by ANAIC president Marco Papacci and made up of the Cuban ambassador to Italy Mirta Granda, Gerardo Hernández, and the journalists Annalisa Capaldo, Erminia Pellecchia, and Giorgia Bozzetto.

The panelists discussed the current situation in Cuba and its people's struggle to protect their Revolution from the U.S. blockade and the unjust designation of the island as an alleged state sponsor of terrorism.
