HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 27 (ACN) It is a true pleasure for us to welcome you to the institutional headquarters of the National Assembly of People's Power; allowing us, once again, to pay tribute to your people and, at the same time, to reiterate that the solid and deep ties that unite us are indestructible.
These words were stated by Esteban Lazo Hernandez, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Council of State, upon receiving the ambassadors and other members of the Diplomatic Corps of Asia and Oceania accredited in Cuba on June 26 at the National Capitol.
At the fraternal meeting, a demonstration of Cuba's excellent and historic friendship bonds with the nations of the region, the hed of Cuban legislature emphasized the significance of these exchanges, which allow for continued strengthening of bilateral ties, especially between legislative bodies.
I take this opportunity to reiterate our gratitude for the solidarity we have always received from Asia in the great battles fought by our people, he stated.
Asian nations also share anti-imperialist ideals with Cuba; they support us in the fight against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government more than six decades ago; as well as for the exclusion of our country from the infamous list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism, Lazo Hernandez added.
Regarding interparliamentary relations, he stated that during the 10th Legislature of the National Assembly, delegations from several Asian countries have been received with the interest of strengthening and expanding these ties.
In this regard, he called for promoting the functioning of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups that have been established, as well as the creation of new ones that may be formed; as "an important avenue for increasing collaboration, mutual support, and the exchange of experiences."
Cuba will always stand alongside the just causes defended by the people of this region, Lazo Hernandez concluded.
In their speeches, the members of the Diplomatic Corps of Asia and Oceania accredited to Cuba reaffirmed the traditional ties of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation with our people.
