Cuba for a greater role in BRICS women entrepreneurs' network

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 27 (ACN) Ines Maria Chapman Waugh, Cuban deputy PM, thanked Anna Nésterova, president of the Russian branch of the BRICS Alliance of Businesswomen, for her interest in Cuba having a prominent role in this network of member states of the bloc, and for the opening of a regional office in Havana.

From the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce in Havana, Chapman Waugh led a videoconference with the representative of the Eurasian nation, which was also attended by Juana Lilia Delgado Portal, Minister-President of the Central Bank of Cuba, as well as executives from different national entities and organizations.

She emphasized the importance of the aforementioned alliance as a space and opportunity to strengthen the women presence in the BRICS, promote women's growth, cooperation, and market access.

The deputy prime minister told Anna Nesterova that the Cuban potential as an associate member of the aforementioned economic integration body should not be underestimated, as this experience opens up new development opportunities in key sectors of the national economy.

She noted that the BRICS Alliance of Women Entrepreneurs will contribute to supporting business development with an inclusive and sustainable approach in the current times.

For her part, the president of the Russian representation in that network explained that it was created in 2020, by decision of the leaders of the bloc's member states during their 12th Summit, in which Russia held the pro tempore presidency, with the aim of fostering cooperation and strengthening ties between women entrepreneurs from member countries and the world.

She emphasized the interest in each associate nation having a branch of the aforementioned Alliance, for which she underscored the desire for Cuba to contribute experiences and knowledge while strengthening ties with Russia and other countries.

Nésterova proposed that the island's representatives, including women business entrepreneurs, present projects through a digital platform created for that purpose.

In the fraternal exchange, the minister and president of the Central Bank of Cuba emphasized that this BRICS network is an effective space for expanding into new markets, accessing sources of financing and knowledge, and advancing women's empowerment.
