Cuban President begins official visit to Belarus

 

HAVANA, Cuba, June 25 (ACN) In a post on X, the Cuban President’s Office announced that the head of state Miguel Díaz-Canel arrived in Belarus today to pay an official visit and participate in the upcoming meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

According to the message, Díaz-Canel was welcomed in Minsk by the Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Mikhailovich Karankevich and received the honors befitting his status, including the offer of bread and salt, a traditional greeting in Slavic countries.

On this, his second official visit to Belarus, the Cuban president will meet with his counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko and other local authorities to talk about the promotion of specific projects in priority areas and will participate in the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), where Cuba has held observer status since December 2020.

The Cuban Presidency highlighted on its website that Cuba and Belarus established formal diplomatic relations in April 1992, but the two countries hold ties of friendship dating back decades and based on shared values ​​and common positions on international affairs.
