Cuban ministry of transport to distribute a new batch of 100 minibuses in six provinces

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 23 (ACN) A new batch of 100 minibuses for public passenger transportation will be distributed among the country's six provinces with the highest urban traffic, Cuban transport minister Eduardo Rodriguez Davila announced today.

He stated that, in response to concerns and suggestions from the people, the Ministry of Transport (MITRANS) decided to allocate 50 of these vehicles to the eastern provinces of Santiago de Cuba (20), Holguin (10), Camagüey (10), the central Villa Clara (five), and Ciego de Avila (five), and the remaining 50 to Havana, where the entire fleet had originally been allocated.

Rodriguez Davila explained on his official Facebook that this distribution is due to the fact that urban traffic in Havana is approximately 50 % of the country's total.

He clarified that they are not being distributed among all provinces because a minimum of five minibuses is required for each route to ensure an adequate level of service.

The minister also assured that, to the extent that it is possible to continue acquiring these means of transport, the service will be extended to the rest of the provinces.

The project, Rodriguez Davila added, is one of the alternatives promoted by MITRANS with the approval of the central government, allowing vehicles be obtained using part of the foreign currency generated by exporting companies in the transportation system, in this case, aviation.
