Havana municipality with the oldest population in the country



HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 23 (ACN) The Plaza de la Revolucion municipality in Havana, is the oldest of the country's 168, with 36.8% of its population living with this condition.

A 2024 study by the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI by its Spanish acronym) indicates that, at 12.26 square kilometers, it is the fifth smallest of the capital's municipalities, representing 1.6% of Havana's total area.

The total population exceeds 173,000, with a population density of more than 14,000 per square kilometer. The predominant gender is female, and the educational attainment rate is high.

Its majority occupational category is administrative, professional, service, artistic, and intellectual.

It has been the center of many important events in the nation life, such as political rallies and workers' marches in Revolution Square, political and cultural events at the Anti-Imperialist Tribune, the place where the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution was proclaimed: the corner of 23rd and 12th Streets, student and revolutionary struggles around the university steps, and spaces where distinguished martyrs of the Revolution fell, among other events.

It houses emblematic institutions of Cuban history and traditions: the University of Havana, Revolution Square, the Palace of the Revolution, the offices of the Central Committee and the Council of State, La Rampa, the Cristobal Colón Cemetery, the Malecon, the Anti-Imperialist Tribune, among others.
