Cuban province plans synchronization of its second photovoltaic park

HOLGUIN, Cuba, Jun 23 (ACN) The eastern province of Holguin is soon planning the synchronization of its second photovoltaic park, with a generating capacity of 21.8 megawatts (MW), located in Pilon, Antilla municipality.

Raul Alexander Castillo Rodriguez, project's main investor and director of the province's Renewable Energy Sources Company (Emfre by its Spanish acronym), informed the Cuban News Agency that the project, like all solar farms of its kind, has seven inverters, each with a capacity of three MW, with peak power established in response to existing solar radiation.

He also noted that this will be one of four similar parks, completed and synchronized, that the province must have before the end of the year, all operated by Emfre, with the goal of giving approximately 100 MW of solar energy into the National Electric Power System.

Castillo Rodriguez also mentioned the execution of several such projects in Holguin, undertaken by Emfre, as the governing entity, including the sites in the municipality of Rafael Freyre and in Playa Blanca, with a capacity of 4.4 MW, all currently contributing to the annual generation plan.

The installation of photovoltaic sites is a strategy implemented in the country since 2024, with the goal of increasing electricity production through renewable energy sources, gradually replacing more expensive and environmentally harmful options.
