Diaz-Canel hails importance of the Pioneer Students Movement in the Revolution

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 15 (ACN) In closing the National Assembly “64th Anniversary of the José Martí Pioneer Students Organization” (OPJM), Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez stressed that children are essential for the transformation of the country and hailed the importance of studying to protect the history and achievements of the Homeland.

The president also remarked to the OPJM members the need to learn about the work of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz so that they can be worthy continuators of his legacy and assured that Cuba remains committed to making sure that its children and teenagers fully enjoy their rights despite the difficulties caused by the U.S. blockade.
He also referred to the relevance of draft Code of Children, Adolescents and Youth to further ensure the protection of all minors.

In her closing remarks, Meyvis Estévez Echevarría, First Secretary of the National Committee of the Young Communist League, said that the Assembly was marked by fruitful debates and proved that that the OPJM can take pride on the fact that the continuity of the Revolution is safe, as evidenced by the importance that the government attaches to children and young people.

During the event, the students not only shared their views about what still needs to be done within the organization and how they can contribute from their schools, but also issued a statement in support of Palestine.

After a nine-year-long hiatus, the National Assembly of the OPJM makes a comeback to keep promoting exchanges among the youngest ones, whom Cuba’s National Hero José Martí called “the hope of the world”.
