Cuba hails the 94th birthday of Army General Raul Castro



 HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 3 (ACN) Cuba hails today the 94th birthday of Army General Raul Castro Ruz, and highlights his contributions to the continuity of Fidel's revolutionary work.

Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and president of the country, in his congratulatory message on X thanked the legacy of Raul Castro Ruz, who was the protagonist, along with his brother Fidel, of the assault on the Moncada Barracks (1953), the landing of the Granma yacht (1956) and the guerrilla struggle in the Sierra Maestra (1956-1958) against the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista.

"Today enters the 95th year of his life GE Raul Castro Ruz, leader of the #Revolution and indispensable guide in the challenging mission of giving continuity to the work of #Fidel and his heroic generation, in times of reinforced imperial aggressiveness. Congratulations and thank you, dear #Raul," wrote the head of state.

For his part, Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, pointed out that the Army General is a reference for every revolutionary and an example for the Cuban people, with an everlasting place in the history of the Homeland.

In his congratulations, published on the Cuban legislature's X account, Lazo recalled the words of the Commander in Chief about his brother: “a man of exceptional qualities”.

Manuel Marrero, Prime Minister, emphasized that in his revolutionary trajectory, the Army General has taught Cubans the value of unity and unshakable faith in victory, convinced that "we will get out of these difficulties by fighting!

The premier urged the leader of the Revolution to continue with his foot in the stirrup.

Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the PCC, wrote about the Army General that he is the best disciple of Fidel and a permanent reference for Cuban communists and revolutionaries.

Also Salvador Valdes Mesa, vice president of Cuba, celebrated on X the 94th birthday of the leader of the Revolution, praising his dedication and revolutionary firmness.

"With the simplicity of a man of the countryside, the loyalty of a brother and the wisdom of one who has defended our Homeland in all battles. Good health and new joys," Valdes Mesa added.

Between 1959 and 2008 Raul Castro Ruz was the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces; from October 3, 1965 until April 19, 2011 he was the second secretary of the PCC; and from the latter date until April 2021 he held the position of first secretary of that body.

He assumed the leadership of the country between 2006 and 2018, a period during which he promoted important structural and conceptual changes for the updating of the Cuban economic and social model.
