SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, May 27 (ACN) A 3.9-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale shook the bay of Santiago de Cuba on Monday morning, registering seven kilometers (km) south of the capital city.
According to reports from the National Center for Seismological Research, the quake did not cause material or human damages, and was also perceptible in the coastal demarcation of Guama and the municipality of San Luis.
With a 11 km depth, the event is registered as the tenth perceptible of 2025, preceded by others of lesser intensity.
Meanwhile, Beatriz Johnson, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province, through her WhatsApp channel urged to remain calm if an earthquake of great magnitude occurs, and recalled protective measures such as taking shelter under strong furniture and moving away from objects that can fall.
The unpredictable nature of these natural phenomena turns preventive actions into key tools to safeguard life, hence the importance of being informed through official sources and following the guidelines of the Civil Defense General Staff.
