Cuban province for the renewal of the energy matrix

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, May 26 (ACN) Workers of the Renewable Sources of Energy Company (EMFRE by its Spanish acronym) of the central province of Villa Clara, along with brigades of the construction sector, are advancing in the materialization of the photovoltaic solar park that is being built in Bermejal, a community in the municipality of Santo Domingo, despite a delay of more than a month caused by the complex composition of the soil.

The selected area, located at kilometer eight of the Santo Domingo-Corralillo highway, already has piles and bases for seven technological containers, which will allow the installation of nearly 1,570 tables and more than 43,900 solar panels to begin, which will increase the contribution of clean energy to the National Electric Energy System.

Alina Gallardo Almeida, EMFRE's investor, said that the presence of clay and iron in the ground required the use of special piles to guarantee the stability of the work and pointed out that, despite the difficulties, the installation of the planned technology is already underway, with the objective of reaching an installed power of 21.8 megawatts at the times of greatest solar radiation.

Bermejal thus becomes the second park of its kind in the municipality, after the La Criolla site, which will add to the diversification of the energy matrix of the province and the country, she explained.

The commissioning of this facility will strengthen the stability of the National Electroenergy System and responds to the national strategy of increasing the use of renewable sources, in correspondence with the objectives of sustainable development, Gallardo Almeida commented.

Edelmiro Fonseca Quintana, resident of a nearby community, highlighted the importance of this type of initiative: “the development of clean energies in Cuba is fundamental to face the limitations imposed by the US economic blockade on the country, since each solar park built represents one more step towards energy independence and national sovereignty”.
