Young Communist League remains a leader of international youth organization

HAVANA, Cuba, May 25 (ACN) Cuba’s Young Communist League (UJC) was ratified as secretary general of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) in the final session of the 21st General Assembly of the organization, held in Windhoek, Namibia.

More than 150 participants representing 78 organizations from 57 countries elected the WFDY structure for the next four years, with the Portuguese Communist Youth (JCP) as its President.

Both the UJC and the JCP have excelled in the struggle to vindicate young people’s historical claims.

The Coordinating Bureau, based in Budapest, Hungary, is also made up of Namibia’s Swapo Party Youth League, the Sri Lanka National Union of Students, and the Union of Lebanese Democratic Youth as regional vice presidents of Africa, Asia and the Middle East, respectively.

The assembly ratified the commitment to keep seeking international youth unity against all forms of imperialist aggression, capitalist exploitation, colonialism and oppression, as well as the need that young people be at the front line of the struggle for peace, democracy and social transformation, as intended by the WFDY since it was established in 1945.

The Federation is now faced with the challenge of organizing the 20th World Festival of Youth and Students, whose host country will be decided in the coming months.
