HAVANA, Cuba, May 16 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and president of the country, reiterated the island's support for the Palestinian people on the 77th anniversary of the Nakba (Arabic term for catastrophe), a term that recalls the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians after the creation of the State of Israel in 1948.
On X, the Cuban president denounced the extermination suffered by Palestine under Israeli occupation and ratified Cuba's commitment to the Palestinian resistance.
We continue accompanying the dignity of those who do not let themselves be defeated, and denouncing, relentlessly, Israel's genocidaires," Diaz-Canel wrote on the social media.
"We do not forget the Palestinian people under the shrapnel of extermination. 77 years after the #Nakba, a catastrophe that marked that lineage that resists despite death, we continue to accompany the dignity of those who do not let themselves be defeated, and denounce, relentlessly, the genocidal Israelis."
The Nakba (May 15, 1948) marked the beginning of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with more than 700,000 Palestinians displaced from their lands, the depopulation and destruction of more than 500 Palestinian villages by the Israeli armed forces and the subsequent geographic erasure, the denial of the Palestinian right of return and the creation of permanent Palestinian refugees.
