HAVANA, Cuba, May 13 (ACN) Esteban Lazo Hernandez, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the National Assembly of People's Power, received on Monday at the National Capitol Nguyen Xuan Thang, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam, president of the Central Theoretical Council and director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, in the framework of the 6th Theoretical Seminar between the two political organizations.
During the meeting, Lazo Hernandez, who is also President of the Council of State, highlighted the historic ties between Cuba and Vietnam, based on the legacy of Fidel Castro and Ho Chi Minh, while thanking the Vietnamese support in the fight against the U.S. economic blockade, according to the Parliament site.
The Asian leader stressed the importance of this exchange to share experiences on socialist construction.
The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Vietnamese victory of April 30, 1975 and the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Other participants in the cordial exchange were Ana Maria Mari Machado and Homero Acosta Alvarez, vice president and secretary of the National Assembly of People's Power, respectively; Hero of the Republic of Cuba Gerardo Hernandez Nordelo, member of the Council of State and president of the Cuba-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group;.
Julio Cesar Garcia Rodriguez, head of the Office of Attention to the System of People's Power, State Bodies and Legal Sector of the Central Committee of the Party; Alberto Nunez Betancourt, vice president of the International Relations Commission of the Cuban legislature; and other officials of the Central Committee of the Party and directors of International Relations of the Cuban Parliament were also present.
On the other hand, Nguyen Xuan Thang was also received by Fernando Gonzalez Llort, president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP by its Spanish acronym).
Gonzalez Llort evoked the historic brotherhood ties between the two nations, parties and people, and the words of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro when he said “For Vietnam we are willing to give even our own blood”.
Nguyen Xuan Thang spoke of the legacy of the Commander-in-Chief, “Fidel is in the hearts of the Vietnamese”, he said, and recalled the assistance provided by the island to his country in construction and other areas.
Hours earlier, the Vietnamese delegation paid tribute to Uncle Ho in the capital's park that bears his name. Nguyen Xuan Thang laid a wreath before the bust of the beloved leader, a ceremony attended by Emilio Lozada, head of the International Relations Department of the Party Central Committee and Gonzalez Llort.
