Havana, May 6 (ACN) Cuba marked the 106 years of diplomatic relations with Portugal, which have been based on stable political and respectful dialog.
An X message by the Cuban Foreign Ministry reiterated the island’s willingness to keep strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation with Portugal.
The two countries established full diplomatic relations on May 6, 1919. During this time, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, visited Portugal twice, first to participate at the 8th Iberoamerican Summit of Heads of State and Government in 1998, and during a transit on that country’s capital Lisbon in 2001.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel visited Portugal in July 2023 on the invitation of Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who had visited Cuba in 2016.
