HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 27 (ACN) The first of more than 300 friends from around 15 countries have arrived in Cuba as members of the XXVIII solidarity brigade “First of May” to participate in both the multitudinous parade for Workers' Day at Havana’s Revolution Square and the Solidarity Meeting scheduled to be held on May 2.
Leima Martínez Freire, a director of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), remarked that this is one of the largest contingents of its kind, a fact revealing of the widespread support for the island and opposition to the U.S. blockade and its policy of maximum pressure against Cuba.
The official pointed out that the brigade is made up of supporters from the United States (more than 100), Europe, Latin America, Africa, Canada and Australia who will visit the Che Guevara Memorial in the city of Santa Clara, do volunteer work, and visit production, educational, scientific and health centers as part of a program organized until May 10.
