Havana, April 24 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel attended a homage mass Thursday for Pope Francis at Havana’s Cathedral.
Few hours after the news of the Pope’s passing was known, several messages of condolences were sent by the Cuban government to the International Catholic community, as well as messages of gratefulness for the Pope’s affection for Cuba, and recognition of the outstanding legacy left by the Pontific.
Pope Francis passed away on April 21 at 88 at his residence in the Santa Marta Home, in Vatican City.
Francis was the secular name of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the first Jesuit Pope and the first Latin American Pontiff.
His papal work was marked by humbleness, his preference for the poor and his compromise with dialog with persons of different origins and creeds.
