Cuban president stresses importance of preventive work to fight crime

MATANZAS, Cuba, Apr 18 (ACN) Cuban president Miguel Diaz.Canel stressed the need of maintaining intensity and comprehensiveness in confronting illegal activities while prioritizing preventive measures was emphasized this Thursday during the conclusion of a working visit to this western province.

"The important thing is that preventive action is so extensive that it prevents crimes from occurring, but this requires greater popular and institutional control," insisted the President, accompanied by Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the PCC Central Committee.

Ensuring proper coordination between the state and non-state sectors was highlighted as a priority. Cases identified by Party teams in Jovellanos and Perico were analyzed, revealing irregularities in contracting and project execution.

"In these cases, we find instances of deceit, nepotism of a new kind, dishonesty, selfishness, individualism, sloppiness, and lack of control. The Revolution was not made for these phenomena to exist," reflected Díaz-Canel.

"We will continue using verification methods to ensure all national structures fulfill their roles," he affirmed before political and government leaders from Matanzas' 13 municipalities.

Mario Sabines Lorenzo, First Secretary of the PCC Provincial Committee in Matanzas, stressed that non-state economic activities must align with municipal needs, as they complement state economic structures.

Before concluding the visit, Díaz-Canel—accompanied by Marieta Poey Zamora, the provincial governor, and other political and government officials—toured facilities, farms, and engaged with residents in Los Arabos, Perico, and Limonar.
