HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 13 (ACN) Pursuant to the agreements signed during the visit that Le To Lam, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and president of that country paid to Cuba in September 2024, a donation of 10,000 tons of rice from the Party, the State and the people of Vietnam was received at the Mariel Container Terminal.
The Vietnamese deputy minister of Finance, Le Tan Can, highlighted his country’s commitment to and solidarity with Cuba and the historic nature of the ties between both nations, and reasserted his government’s will to keep expanding and strengthening Vietnam-Cuba relations to help the island’s food security program.
Aracelys Cardoso Hernández, Cuban Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, praised the importance of the donation, as it contributes to the proper nutrition of the population and stands as a symbol of brotherhood between the two countries.
On her end, Ana Teresa Igarza Martínez, general director of the Mariel Special Development Zone Office, updated the visitor on the businesses and projects currently under way in the Zone, where Vietnam is a major investor in sectors such as light industry, fertilizer and food production, and renewable energies.
Another 1,500 tons of grain will be donated on behalf of Ho Duc Phoc, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam.
The delivery of rice stems from the Cooperation Plan between the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture and the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for the promotion of grain production with a view to guaranteeing food security in Cuba in the period 2025-2027 and until 2035.
