Havana, April 10 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel recalled on Thursday the founding in 1892 of the Cuban Revolutionary Party by National Hero Jose Marti with the aim of achieving the full independence of the Caribbean Island nation from Spanish colonial rule.
Diaz-Canel recalled that the Jose Marti Party also pursued to help get the independence of Puerto Rico, today under a US colonial rule.
On X, the head of state recalled that the Cuban Revolutionary Party was founded on April 10th, 1892 with the concept of unity as the central goal expressed in the work and thinking of Jose Marti.
The party pursued the organization of an independence war, generous and brief enough, and once the victory was reached, protect peace, stability and promote the welfare of all Cubans.
Under the Cuban Revolutionary Party, the 1895 independence war gathered all forces but not the country’s independence, thwarted by the 1898 US intervention in Cuba.
On the other hand, the fall in combat of Jose Marti in 1895 weakened the performance of the Party and its democratic nature, according to historians. But the essence of that Cuban political organization keeps alive in the current Cuban Communist Party, according to local authorities.
