Cuban school associated with UNESCO deemed a model of sustainable education

NUEVA GERONA, Cuba, Apr 9 (ACN) The primary school "Magaly Montané" in the Isle of Youth has become a praiseworthy model of education, according to Anne Lemaistre, director of the Regional Office of UNESCO.

The school is associated with this international organization and has proven to be a place where nature and human effort meet thanks to actions ranging from the creative use of recycling to design didactic games to the teaching of the value of renewable energies and road safety.

Ms. Lemaistre stressed that the students have learned and internalize fundamental concepts through practices that promote respect for the environment and sustainability and made reference to the project Corazón Verde (Green Heart), which intertwines the school's initiatives with the spirit of the Isla Verde International Caribbean Film and Environment Festival, currently ongoing in this municipality.

“As a result of this program, the school children have gained amazing knowledge on topics such as the fight against plastic pollution, the importance of composting and reuse, and even the cultivation of medicinal plants, something that many people, even we adults, should learn”, she pointed out. “This educational approach molds young minds and at the same time strengthens the foundations of a conscious and engaged generation. So I am glad, as this really is the new generation that is building the future”.
