GEOCIENCIAS 2025 highlights relevance of energy transition

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 8 (ACN) The energy transition as a strategy for progress in electricity generation and other fields in Cuba was a major topic for discussion at the XI Convention and Exhibition of Earth Sciences “GEOCIENCIAS 2025”.

In a keynote lecture given by Ramses Montes Calzadilla, Director of Energy Policy and Strategy of the Cuban Ministry of Energy and Mines, pointed out that energy transition is just about changing the way to produce, distribute and consume energy as a strategy to attain environmentally friendly energy self-sufficiency and security at the lowest possible cost for the benefit of the country’s sustainable development.

The official referred to the ongoing construction of solar and wind farms, the increasing use of electrical vehicles, and other initiatives to reduce the dependence on imported fuels and at the same time improve the quality of life of the population.

Organized every two years, GEOCIENCIAS 2025 gathers national and foreign professionals linked to subjects such as Geology, Mining, Geophysics, and other disciplines to discuss topics like environmental impact and applied technology based on the exploitation of the earth and the care and conservation of the environment.
