Cuba leaders congratulate children and youngsters on April 4

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 4 (ACN) Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, today congratulated Cuban children, adolescents, and youth.

On his X account, marking the 64th anniversary of the José Martí Pioneer Organization (OPJM) and the 63rd anniversary of the Young Communist League (UJC), he stated that April 4 will always be a day of celebration for those who were, are, and will be proud pioneers of the OPJM and committed members of the UJC.

Through the same social network, Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, celebrated the date and affirmed that the new generations are the pride of the nation.

He highlighted the commitment of young people, always at the forefront of the country’s main tasks, and the trust that Cuba’s highest authorities place in its youth.

"Many congratulations to all our children and youth on the anniversary of the UJC and the OPJM! Always young, always anti-imperialist, and always revolutionary," wrote Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, on X.

The OPJM traces its roots to the Union of Rebel Pioneers (UPR), founded in 1961, which became the Union of Cuban Pioneers (UPC) in 1962.

In 1977, during the UJC’s Third Congress, it was decided to transform the UPC into the José Martí Pioneer Organization, which works to instill in children and adolescents a love for learning, a sense of social responsibility, patriotism, and solidarity with the peoples of the world.

Meanwhile, the UJC emerged during the closing of the First Congress of the Association of Rebel Youth on April 4, 1962, when Commander in Chief Fidel Castro proposed adopting the name Young Communist League (UJC).

The organization was born from the unification of Cuba’s youth movement, aiming to foster communist education in new generations—rooted in patriotism, loyalty to the Communist Party of Cuba, the defense of the highest human values, the country’s socioeconomic development, and an anti-imperialist and internationalist spirit.
