Russian deputy minister decorates Cuban scientist



HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 2 (ACN) Ayrat Rinatovich Gatiyatov, deputy minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, presented in Havana a diploma and a medal to Doctor of Science Fernando Gonzalez Bermudez for his contribution to the Yury Alexandrovich Orlov Moscow Institute of Paleontology and stressed that his Cuban colleague is a reference in ecology, biodiversity and environment.

On his end, Dr. Gonzalez remarked that he welcomed the commendations on behalf of all Cuban scientists engaged in major science and technological innovation projects and held to be proud to belong to the generation that marked the beginning of scientific-technical cooperation in the 1960s and 70s.

Dr. González studied graduated from Havana Medical School in 1969, received a Doctorate in 1975, and became a Senior Researcher in 1982. He was deputy director of the National Center of Animal Health and has fulfilled other responsibilities in important scientific centers or related institutions.

Likewise, he directed the Institute of Zoology of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and the National Center for Laboratory Animal Production between 1982 and 2004, and then became first deputy minister of Science, Technology and the Environment until 2020.
