Cuban solar park makes good progress in its first month of operation

 CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Mar 31 (ACN) A month after its start-up, the Alcalde Mayor solar park, in the central province of Cienfuegos, is running at a good and very stable pace because it generated an average of 117 to 120 megawatts (mw) daily, and considerable savings by replacing fuel of about 25,000 liters per day.

Armando Carranza Valladares, first secretary of the Party in the province, explained to the press that this saving of "Mayor Mayor" allows boosting the distributed generation, especially during peak hours.

Attius Rodriguez Peña, director of the Renewable Energy Sources Business Unit, assured the provincial radio that this month this photovoltaic installation accumulated a generation of 2,875 mw.

The executive emphasized that since it is clean energy, it does not emit CO2 into the atmosphere, another of the advantages of this type of enclave.

According to data provided by Salvador Vera Hernandez, investment director of Cienfuegos Electric Company, the facility located in the municipality of Abreus covers 26 hectares, and has 1,638 photovoltaic structures, with 42,588 panels of Chinese technology.

Vera Hernandez added that they are working on the construction of three other parks, the one located in La Yuca, also of 21.8 mw, which is at 65 % of construction and should be finished by late April or early May.

At the same time - he said - the photovoltaic installation in Mal Tiempo, in the municipality of Cruces, is progressing, which reports 61% of execution in the schedule, and where they are working on the driving of the structures, the assembly of the tables, and in the process of construction of trenches.

With similar generation capacity to its similar facilities, this park should start generating by the end of May and a fourth enclave will be located in the area of Pepe Rivas, in the outskirts of the main municipality, for which soil studies and topographic surveys must be initiated.
All these facilities are conceived within the country's strategy to increase electricity generation and face the complex situation of the National Electric Power System.
