Cuban authorities prioritize recovery of public transportation in Havana with Chinese aid

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 31 (ACN) The Cuban Ministry of Transport is prioritizing the recovery of this public service in Havana through a project to repair 100 buses, paralyzed for years and now revitalized with the support of a donation from the Chinese government and state funds.

According to the head of the sector, Eduardo Rodriguez Davila, through his Facebook profile, the effort seeks to reverse the deterioration of the sector, aggravated by the lack of foreign currency, spare parts and fuel.

The CAISA company in Guanajay, Artemisa province, is restoring 60 rigid buses and 40 articulated ones, according to the article published by Cubadebate.

The process includes bodywork, painting, mechanics and replacement of seats, the latter identified as critical components due to their rapid wear and tear.

Engine recovery is another challenge: only 100 engines are available, although some are being evaluated for reconditioning with the support of the Motor Centro. Repair modules donated by China will arrive in two phases until August, which will speed up the work.

The project is part of the Fund for the Development of Public Transportation, fed by vehicle sales, and seeks to improve mobility in the capital, where the collapse of transportation impacts the population on a daily basis.
