SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Mar 28 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, visited today works and sites of social economic interest in the municipality of Remedios, in the central province of Villa Clara.
The official opening of the Rojas photovoltaic solar park, with an installed capacity of 21.87 megawatts, marked the beginning of the President's visit to Villa Clara.
More than 42,500 solar panels are installed in this important work and will allow saving 8,000 tons (t) of fuel per year, Eduardo Perez Reyes, director of the Electric Sector in the province, explained exclusively to the Cuban News Agency.
Later, in the planting area of La Fuente, dedicated to potato cultivation, the President was informed by Mayrel Acosta Melgarejo, director of the Enpresa Agroindustrial Remedios, about the productive results with national seed, amounting to 16 tons per hectare and more than 50 % of the plantations in this format that replaces imports, although it is still far from what was projected.
Diaz-Canel arrived in the Remedios Dolomite Base Business Unit, belonging to Geominira Centro, where he was interested in the use of science in the production process, the possibility of exporting and the treatment and attention to the needs of the workers.
Hundreds of locals received the President at the Jose Marti Main Square; in dialogue with the people, Diaz-Canel deepened in priority issues for the country's direction such as food production and electricity generation.
Afterwards, he went to the municipality of Encrucijada, to continue his tour in this territory.
