Cuba would meet its power generation commitment for 2030

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 27 (ACN) Investments to get the national electrical system (SEN) back on its feet and increase the use of renewable energy sources (FRE) would make it possible for Cuba to meet its commitment to produce 24% of its power with clean energy by 2030.

In statements to the press, Vicente de la O Levy, Minister of Energy and Mines, remarked that this figure will be far exceeded if the plans are fulfilled to set in motion 92 solar farms across the country (46 of them this year), each of them capable of providing 21 MW to the power grid.

He pointed out that Cuba is generating more than 330 MW with natural gas and will drill a new well this year to add another 30 MW to this figure, in addition to some 33 MW expected to be available from wind farms early next year.
