NUEVA GERONA, Cuba, Mar 17 (ACN) In view of the arrival of a new cold front to the west of the country, the Cuban Maritime Administration (AMC) announced through its Facebook profile the suspension of maritime navigation between the ports of Batabano, Nueva Gerona and Largo del Sur Key.
The measure will take effect as of 00:00 hours on Monday, March 17, 2025 and will be maintained until weather conditions improve.
The statement indicates that according to the Institute of Meteorology, winds from the northeast and north are expected with speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour (km/h), accompanied by a slight drop in the average sea level during midday in the Gulf of Batabano and the seas near the Isle of Youth.
These conditions represent a significant risk for navigation, both in crossings and in docking maneuvers, the statement reads.
The AMC is in constant communication with the Meteorological Institute to monitor the evolution of meteorological variables in order to reestablish maritime operations as soon as it is safe.
